Embers Pizza Padstow​

 

On the 3rd of February 2018, Embers committed to move to paper straws.

They have registered with Refill Cornwall​ to give free tap water refills and support the Final Straw Cornwall​ campaign. 

Owner, Ray, says "We have already moved to ditch single use plastics on products such as straws, stirrers etc and have stopped selling bottled water in plastic bottles." 

Java Cafe Padstow​

 

On the 6th February 2018, Java Cafe announces that they are supporting Plastic Free Padstow.

They are now a Final Straw Cornwall business and say "No plastic straws will be given out by us and we are looking at alternatives to our other plastic items and they will be changing shortly !!"

The business has already removed plastic straws and cocktail stirrers from its pub and restaurants

 

On the 9th February 2018 they announced that they will be removing plastic carrier bags and switching to paper bags and are looking to move away from products sold in plastic to products sold in glass instead.

The bins outside Rick Stein's Fish & Chips will be sign-written “Plastic Free Padstow” so that everyone who visits Padstow will see these as soon as they arrive into the town. They empty, sort and recycle their own litter in these bins.

BinTwo Padstow​

 

On the 15th February 2018, we shared BinTwo's initiatives - supporting Final Straw Cornwall to eliminate the use of plastic straws offering paper straws on request to lovers of gin and tonic and tiny tots guzzling apple juice.

They are signed up to Refill Cornwall which means offering to refill people’s water bottle with fresh Cornish tap water

Also they are introducing reusable coffee cups and switching over to Vegware takeaway coffee cups and lids which are made from plants not plastic

Greens of Padstow

On the 16th February 2018, Greens of Padstow announced that they no longer have Plastic Straws and they support Final Straw Cornwall by using paper straws (green ones of course!)

No takeaway coffee cups or sugar in sachets

No plastic drinks bottles

Rest A While Tea Garden

On the 9th March 2018, the winner of "Tea Shop of the Year" at the Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards 2017 joined the initiative.

Martin says that they support Final Straw Cornwall and also offer free tap water refills are part of Refill Cornwall.

They are also phasing out single use plastics; not that that have many as most food and drink is served on plates, cups and glasses with real cutlery.

Padstow Food Fair

 

Located in the Padstow Memorial Hall and they have numerous people selling Cornish Produce (Gin, Jams, Chutneys, Teas, Spice Mixes, Cakes, Dog treats, Jewellery, Cheeses and much more).

They offer free Cornish tap water refills as part of Refill Cornwall, have no plastic straws as part of Final Straw Cornwall, use wooden stirrers and offer a discount on coffee if you bring your own Reusable coffee cup

 

On the 10th March they announced that they are also looking at compostable and other single use plastic alternatives.

Padstow Brewing Company

 

On the 21st March, the Tasting Room and shop shared their initiatives including:

- No plastic bottles. Drinks are in glass bottles or cans.
- They offer filtered water refills as part of the Refill Cornwall scheme
- They serve their drinks in glasses and are looking at compostable alternatives to taster glasses
- Working on replacements to plastic carrier bags
- No straws

The Shop Trevone Farm

 

On the 28th March, The Shop Trevone Farm shared their initiatives including:

- Selling bamboo keep cups for your hot drinks
- Milk is now available in glass Milk Bottles
- Jute shopping bags at just £2 each instead of plastic carrier bags
- Most soft drinks (and water) available in cans
- Paper bags for cakes and croissants

Padstow Tourist Information Centre

 

On the 4th April, the TIC announced that they are reducing their reliance on Single Use Plastics as part of the Plastic Free Padstow initiative

They are phasing out water in plastic bottles and carrier bags.

 

They have also joined the Refill Cornwall scheme offering free tap water refills when you take in your reusable water bottle.

Prawn On The Lawn

On the 2nd of May Prawn on the Lawn met with Beach Guardian to hand over their last plastic straws as part of the Final Straw Cornwall #StrawAmnesty!

They also have no plastic bottles in the restaurant.

 

They also reuse plastic tubs as storage containers and now have no plastic cutlery.

Barnaby's

 

On the 3rd of May, Barnaby’s who opened only recently, demonstrated that they take their reliance on Single Use Plastics into consideration when opening a new business.

They have no plastic bottles, or straws or plastic cutlery.

We wish them great success in their new venture.

Jo Jo's Kitchen

 

On the 5th May, Jo Jo's kitchen showed their plastic free initiatives... no plastic straws, cutlery or stirrers.

 

Most drinks are in cans, including CanO Water, the sandwiches are prepared while you wait and then wrapped in paper, compostable takeaway coffee cups...

A great way to launch a new business!

Padstow Sealife Safaris

 

On the 18th May, Padstow Sealife Safaris scooped out some ghost gear from the sea.

They also pick out plastic bottles and other bits and pieces that they come across in the estuary and sea.

They have already ditched disposable coffee cups and got Keep Cups for all the crew and have also organised a Beach Clean earlier this year.

On the 9th August, Padstow Kitchen Garden reduced their reliance on Single Use Plastics with most items being loose in their veg boxes.

 

Far less plastic than the supermarket in town and straight out of the ground here in Padstow on the day of delivery!

Fresh and Interesting selection... Supporting local growers... Delivered to the door in less plastic. What's not to like!

Cornish Horizons Holiday Cottages

 

On the 5th November, Cornish Horizons made the pledge to reduce the amount of plastic they use including offering free tap water refills as part of the Refill Cornwall initiative, removing plastic straws as part of the Final Straw Cornwall initiative and joining in local  Beach Cleans

"We know that our coastline and countryside are one of the main reasons that holiday makers are drawn to this part of the country year after year so feel it is part of our role to help maintain and protect the environment that attract them”.

Trevisker Garden Centre

 

On the 15th February, Trevisker Garden Centre did a litter pick, then a beach clean.

They don't have plastic straws, stirrers or cutlery in the restaurant, held a Flower Pot Amnesty, invested in recycled and recyclable flower pots for their own grown plants and have thistle starch bags for customers to take their plants home in.

They have a Refill station for plant food, sell water bottles, reusable coffee cups and plastic free soap
