Padstow School has teamed up with the Beach Guardian to support Plastic Free Padstow as part of vital community engagement.

The school has been doing a ‘Beach School Project’ for the last ten years which allows the children to become beach experts and develop an understanding and appreciation of the unique and amazing environment on their door step.

A strong partnership is vital to the success of theSurfers Against Sewage #PlasticFreeCoastlinesproject so local Community Leaders, Emily & Rob Stevenson from Beach Guardian, will be working with Debbie Richards, Y1 teacher, to take in some of the plastics that they have found washed up on local beaches as part of their “Schools Educational Activities Link” programme to provide an educational, art based, session at the school.

Debbie Richards, Y1 teacher said “I am really looking forward to working with the Beach Guardian and bringing the project into our Beach schools. I think the children will love it.”

Community action is the pathway to success for Plastic Free Coastlines. Ensuring as many people as possible are aware of the campaign and issue of single-use plastics, offers the best chance of victory, reducing the amount of plastic pollution in our environment.

Kate Whitford, Head of Padstow School said “I think that this is a valuable project for a school so closely associated with the sea”.

The Beach Guardian is based locally to the school and Emily recently appeared on the front page of theDaily Telegraph with a 20 year old crisp packet she had found on a Beach Clean at Constantine Bay.

On 4th June 2018, Beach Guardian did an afternoon plastic awareness and Art session with year one and an all school assembly.

On the 8th June, Padstow Sea Cadet Unit was visited by Rob and Emily from Beach Guardian to talk to the cadets about sea and beach pollution and the importance for everyone to get involved with minimising the plastic waste in the seas around our coastline.

They will be doing our bit and collecting any waste we find while out boating. Rob and Emily will be back to join them on the water.
